Telangana sentiment strong, says Janatha Party MLA

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Janata Party MLA Komireddi Ramulu has said that the Congress party would win the Karimnagar by-election only if it goes to the people with the slogan of separate Telangana State.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Ramulu said the Congress should realise that the Telangana sentiment was very strong. Referring to the remarks of AICC president Sonia Gandhi about the efforts being made to evolve a consensus on the issue, he expressed confidence that the UPA Government alone could ensure a separate State.

He welcomed Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's decision to order probe into the Outer Ring Road (ORR) issue.

The demand for a probe by a sitting Supreme Court or High Court judge was impossible as the Chief Justice of India had clearly expressed helplessness to spare sitting judges for any probe.

On the TDP's demand for Chief Minister's resignation, he said there was no such need as Dr. Reddy had asked the CBI to conduct the inquiry.

He urged the Centre to immediately extend 27 per cent reservations for the Other Backward Classes in all institutions.
