VUYYURU: Local MLA K. Partha Saradhi on Wednesday criticised the bureaucracy for implementing certain schemes routinely without bothering whether it was meeting the desired objective or not. He was speaking at a meeting organised on the occasion of the launching of a five-day public information campaign by the Press Information Bureau on the salient features of UPA Government's Bharat Nirman programme. Referring to Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Mr. Saradhi said that officials were merely spending the money just to show the result to higher-ups. Though the infrastructure in certain schools in rural areas was still woefully inadequate, officials of SSA were not able to do anything. They should target their expenditure wisely so as to develop at least a few such schools comprehensively. Mr. Saradhi also expressed dissatisfaction over hiccups in the implementation of Rajiv Yuva Shakti (RYS). Because of the freedom given to bankers in extending financial assistance to beneficiaries of welfare programmes, bank officials were rejecting the applications cleared by Mandal Development Officers under RYS, he said.
Internal mechanism
Krishna Zilla Parishad Chairperson K. Nageswara Rao, who inaugurated the programme, opined that the Government departments should have internal mechanism to assess for themselves whether they were meeting the desired service standards. He opined that the responsibility of implementing the Government's schemes lay with officials. There should be no gap between assurances and implementation, he felt, and referred to how the officials had no relevant information to many assurances made during Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's Rajiv Palle Baata. Zilla Parishad vice-chairperson T. Padmavathi called upon people to know more about various Government schemes during the five-day campaign.
Government stalls
Chairman of Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (A.P.) M.V.V.S. Murthy presided over the programme. Various departments and organisations of the Union and State Governments opened their stalls to explain their programmes and work to visitors. Special publicity teams would tour 40 villages during the five days to publicise about Bharat Nirman programme.
Impressive rally
Earlier, an impressive rally was taken out from Veeramma Temple in the town to A.G. & S.G. Siddhartha Junior College, where the exhibition was organised to mark the inauguration of the campaign. The MLA flagged off the rally, in which students of various schools and colleges, scouts, NCC cadets, volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra and others participated.
