KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday refused to modify its earlier order directing the Government to complete the counselling process and admission to engineering courses strictly in accordance with the prospectus. Justice Siri Jagan affirmed his earlier order passed on writ petitions challenging the Commissioner for Entrance Examination's action directing that those who got admission to engineering courses in colleges affiliated to certain universities should have obtained minimum marks of 50 per cent in mathematics in Plus Two examinations. The court earlier ordered that if admission was made otherwise, it should be reviewed and made in accordance with the prospectus. The court also ordered that admissions already granted either in management or merit quota should not be cancelled on the basis of amended prospectus.
Case adjourned
A Full Bench adjourned to November 15 the framing of contempt of court charges against former Local Administration Minister Cherkalam Abdulla. The case was adjourned by the Bench comprising Justice J.B. Koshy, Justice A.K. Basheer and Justice K.P. Balachandran, while considering the contempt petition filed by P. Damodaran, Kerala State Vyapari Vyavasaya Samithi's Kasaragod district secretary.
GO quashed
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and Justice M. Ramachandran quashed the Government order declaring as vested forest 59 acres of land at Periya in Wayanad under the Kerala Private Forest (Vesting and Assignment) Act. The Bench passed the judgement while allowing a writ petition filed by C.P. Ali, power-of-attorney holder of the land.
Cost imposed
A Bench comprising Justice J.B. Koshy and Justice M. Sasidharan Nambiar imposed a litigation cost of Rs.25,000 on the Palakkad-based Vas Pharmaceutical (India) Private Ltd. Managing Director Vasudevan for filing a suit in the court in a property dispute, suppressing the filing of an earlier suit in Palakkad.
