World Tamils Economic Conference

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A three-day World Tamils Economic Conference will be held in Sydney, Australia, in November 2007.

The conference aims to bring all Tamilians from across the world on a common platform to enhance their economic activities through the exchange of information, organiser and industrialist Bala Balendran told the media on Wednesday.

Efforts will be on to bring the present generation of Tamilians settled in countries such as Malaysia and Fiji nearly 200 years ago to the conference, he said.

Convenor V.R.S. Sampath said the meet would aim to form a Tamil Chamber of Commerce that would function outside India for the benefit of non-resident Tamilians. The efforts of the Chamber would include the sharing of information in the fields of education, employment, business and professional development. It would also help groups, such as Sri Lankan Tamils, that are scattered all over the world.

He urged professionals such as doctors and engineers to take part in the conference to be held on November 12, 13 and 14.

More details could be gathered from the soon-to-be-launched website on the conference.
