CHENNAI : The city crime branch police, following up on a complaint from Tamil Nadu Film Producers Association president Ramanarayanan, arrested 10 people and seized over 1000 pirated film CDs here on Wednesday. The raids were conducted in Ritchie Street, Burma Bazaar, Virugambakkam, Vadapalani, Mambalam, Velacheri and Taramani. It was found that a gang was clandestinely taking prints in secret with the help of CD writers. The new movies seized included "Thimiru", "Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu", "Sillunu Oru Kadal". Commissioner of Police Letika Saran has warned of severe action against persons who indulged in video piracy acts, a press note stated.
Minor girl rescued, one held
Thoraipakkam police arrested a painter from Andhra Pradesh on charges of kidnapping a minor girl on Wednesday. According to police, Selvanathan (40) and his wife Jaya (32) of Parameswaran Nagar Sholinganallur had recently constructed a house and moved in on Sept 17. Their 14-year-old daughter went missing recently and the couple immediately lodged a complaint. A special team was formed to nab the accused, which traced the girl to Andhra Pradesh. It was found that the couple had engaged a painter, Somu Naidu, who abducted the girl and took her to Thada village in Andhra. Police arrested him on kidnapping charges. The girl was also rescued.
Three held by cyber wing
The cyber crime police attached to the City Crime Branch arrested three men on charges of stealing data and circuit diagrams from their former employer. Police said P L Nachiappan of Perungudi, the manager of a company dealing in electronic training equipment filed a complaint that three persons had stolen data and circuit diagrams from the firm and floated a rival firm. Police arrested Mohanraj (28), Sankaranarayanan (22) and Yuvaraj (23, who had been in charge of purchase, sales and production respectively in the company. They had recently floated a firm in Jaffarkhanpet. Police registered a case and remanded them to judicial custody, a press note stated.
