Bangalore: It is that time of the year again when all that glitters will certainly be gold... and diamonds, silver and a lot more.

The eighth Jewels of India exhibition is coming to town and will be on at the Sri Kanteerva Indoor Stadium from September 30 to October 3.

Well, there is a lot that diehard jewellery buyers can look forward to this year — as many as 20 jewellers from Jaipur will participate in the exhibition, who will display Kundan, Meenakari and gem stones. It is also the first time that a jeweller from Surat is taking part in the show.

"I see jewellery as a tradition and a great way to save. It is a legacy that one can pass on to the next generation," said actor Shobana, who is the brand ambassador for this year's Jewels of India.

"I chose to be the brand ambassador for the event because Indian tradition is deep rooted in me and this event represents all of India and its rich tradition in jewellery," she added.

"One piece of jewellery that I cherish is my diamond solitaire nose ring," she revealed.

Asked about her tastes in jewellery, she said, "I prefer traditional jewellery but it depends on the occasion and the mood. I have a designing eye and I like to wear anything that is pretty and suits me. It could be some trinket that I pick up on the streets," Ms. Shobana said.

Business

Sandeep Bekal, chief executive officer of Expoworld and convener of the event, said this year, jewellery worth Rs. 80 crore was likely to be exhibited, of which at least 35 per cent to 40 per cent could be sold.

"Last year, we attracted 50,000 people and we hope to better that this year. There will be a lot of North Indian jewellery this year as we are having a big participation from a jeweller from North India," Mr. Bekal added.
