HYDERABAD: The Suburban Train and Bus Travellers Association urged the Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to give the green signal for electrification of Secunderabad-Bolarum section to ensure speedier travel for thousands of rail users of Malkajgiri, Sainikpuri and Alwal areas. The proposal was pending for three decades now and trains on the section were run on diesel, according to general secretary of the union Noor and president A.V. Swamy here on Wednesday. They said people heading towards Nampally or Kacheguda had to invariably take the connecting trains at Secunderabad railway station, from where the suburban services changed to electric traction. "If the 14-km-long Secunderabad-Bolarum section was electrified, direct trains can be introduced from Bolarum to Nampally, Kacheguda and beyond cutting down on travel time," they pointed out.
Alternative terminal
Welcoming the Ruby Jubilee celebrations of South Central Railway, they appealed to the SCR general manager D.N. Mathur to lay the foundation for development of Malkajgiri railway station as an alternative terminal for the city in addition to Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Nampally stations. "Works on extension of platforms and new station building can be started coinciding with the celebrations," they suggested.
