KOCHI : An academic council meeting at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) on Wednesday was disrupted after a section of employees and council members protested against the conduct of the session in the absence of two new Syndicate members nominated by the Government. Employees and council members said the session should not be held without ensuring participation of MLAs Dinesh Mani and Alphons Kannanthanam, who were nominated to the Syndicate on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis clarified that the notification for the academic council was given on August 17. The two new Syndicate members were not nominated during the time of notification, he said. The Vice-Chancellor said there was no technical problem in holding the academic council without the participation of the newly-nominated members. But the council meeting was called off later following protests.
