Nikhita handed over to her mother

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The emotional battle over the custody of two-year old child, Nikhita, between her foster parents and the biological mother, came to an end here on Wednesday, when the child was legally granted to Nazia, the biological mother.

After nearly four months of wrangle, Nazia obtained the child, following reports of the Institute of Mental Health, which stated that Nazia was capable of taking care of the child and her mental condition was found to be stable, said State Women's Commission Chairperson Mary Ravindranath.

Gamana, an NGO that was supervising the health of Nazia, gave an undertaking that they would continue the supervision of both Nazia and Nikhita, she added.
