HINDRANCE: Silt from drains dumped along Pankaja Mill Road near the Ramanathapuram junction in the city impedes traffic. - Photo: M. Periasamy
COIMBATORE: Rainy seasons do not give much cheer to residents on Pankaja Mill Road near the Ramanathapuram junction. Their woes are many: water stagnation on the road, choked drains, absence of footpath and traffic congestion. According to Mala Sadasivam, a resident, even coming out of the house becomes a problem when it rains. Because of the slope from the Trichy Road to the Pankaja Mill Road, water flows down and stagnates. It is difficult to even take the vehicles out from the houses. The road has a number of commercial establishments. Commuters who wait at the bus stand near the junction also find it difficult since there is no bus shelter and they have to wait on the roadside even in knee-deep water. Further, "pedestrians do not have any walking space and walk on the middle of the road adding to the chaos." The drains should be cleared regularly and the road level increased, she says. Corporation sources said the problem would be looked into immediately.
