COLOMBO: Union Minister of Water Resources, Saifuddin Soz has urged signatories to the Kyoto Protocol to implement the instrument in letter and in spirit for larger human good.

Taking part in an international conference on `Rain Water Harvesting' at Kandy in Sri Lanka, Prof. Soz on Thursday called upon the participating countries to evolve collective steps and a pragmatic policy to improve, utilise, augment and preserve the precious ground water resources. He hoped that collective wisdom would emerge during the course of the workshop to achieve the goal of "Water For All." The Workshop, hosted by Government of Sri Lanka, drew Ministerial level participation from Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives.

A statement by the Indian High Commission here said that at the inauguration Prof. Soz emphasised the importance of rainwater harvesting for sustainable development and elaborated on India's initiatives at the level of central planning.
