HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday received a formal clearance from the Congress high command to postpone the proposed Cabinet expansion till the completion of byelections to the Karimnagar and Bobbili Lok Sabha seats. Dr. Reddy is understood to have told AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh that the expectations of party colleagues were high on the Cabinet expansion. But Mr. Singh advised Dr. Reddy to defer the expansion till the completion of the byelections.
Karimnagar bypoll
The Chief Minister while travelling in the helicopter with AICC president Sonia Gandhi is understood to have discussed the Karimnagar bypoll. He is said to have told her that the party is keen on fielding Jagtial MLA Jeevan Reddy from the seat. K. Keshava Rao, APCC president, said that he would visit New Delhi in a day or two to discuss the party strategy for the Karimnagar byelection. Dr. Reddy also explained to Ms. Gandhi the circumstances that led the Government to order CBI and judicial probes into the alleged irregularities in the acquisition of land for the Outer Ring Road project.
