HYDERABAD: The first segment of the Punjagutta flyover and the girder of Greenlands flyover were successfully erected without any disturbance to the traffic on Wednesday midnight, the MCH announced on Thursday. With the smooth and successful launching of the first girders for both the flyovers, an important milestone has been crossed. The construction was on schedule and will be completed by March 2007, said Commissioner Sanjay Jaju. The Punjagutta flyover is being constructed with the latest segmental construction technology and this is said to be the first flyover with this technology in South India. These segments are match-cast with absolute precision in the Miyapur girder yard. Site conditions of the curvaceous flyover including the slope, curvature, incline and other details are stimulated in the yard and segments are cast before being brought to the flyover site only after midnight. The segments forming the slab structure of the road are glued together without even a millimetre difference and are bonded with very high strength cables. For the next few days one segment each will be brought and affixed. Gradually, four segments will be brought and fixed simultaneously, said Additional Commissioner (Traffic & Transportation) N.V.S.Reddy.
