VIJAYAWADA : Six mutha workers were injured when two groups came to blows at the Gollapudi wholesale market yard here on Thursday. Mutha workers who work full-time at the Gollapudi wholesale market allegedly attacked mutha workers who unload goods from lorries. Police resorted to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control. There was tension between the mutha workers who unload goods and those shifting goods into shops, for the past few days.
Hasty decision
Traders of Gollapudi wholesale market recently decided not to allow mutha workers who come with the trucks to unload goods. The lorry mutha workers said they had been working for over two years and it was not proper for the traders to make such a decision suddenly. The lorry mutha workers were not allowed to enter the wholesale market complex by the market workers ever since the traders passed a resolution to that effect. Since it was a matter of livelihood, tension grew between the two groups. The lorry mutha workers stayed away from work for a couple of days, but entered the wholesale market to unload lorries on Thursday. The market mutha workers tried to stop them and there was a clash between the two groups and six workers suffered injuries. The lorry mutha workers, who were injured, alleged the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Gaddam Subba Rao was behind the attack on them.
