Test assesses competence of government schoolchildren

1,61,7584 students participated in the tests conducted in 59,067 schools


  • The tests were conducted in all 32 education districts in the State
  • Government has come out with a charter for improvement of the quality of education

    GULBARGA: The competence level test of students in government primary schools conducted by the Karnataka Schools Quality Assessment Organisation (KSQAO) has come out with some interesting revelations.

    Karnataka is the first State in the country to conduct a quality assessment test for students in government schools with a view to frame a policy to improve the quality of education.

    Commissioner of the Public Instructions M. Madangopal told presspersons here on Thursday that the quality assessment tests were conducted in all 32 education districts in the State covering 190 blocks.

    As many as 1,61,7584 students participated in the assessment tests conducted in 59,067 schools in the State.

    While the tests were oral for students studying in second standard it was a written test in Kannada, mathematics, science and social sciences for students of fifth and seventh standards. Students of second standard who were given oral tests in Kannada, mathematics and environmental studies performed better with more than 81 per cent of the students attaining 31 per cent competence levels in Kannada 26 per cent in mathematics and 61 per cent in environmental studies.

    The competence levels of the students in class five was much lower than the second standard students and it was worse among seventh standard students.

    The average competence levels of second standard students was 67 per cent while it was 49 per cent for the fifth standard students and 48 per cent for the seventh standard students.

    Based on the results of the assessment done by the Karnataka Schools Quality Assessment Organisation , the Government has come out with a charter for improvement of the quality of education in government schools .
