CHENNAI: Recruitment to all graduate teacher vacancies, including 7,979 newly created posts, will be done only on the basis of the seniority list available with the respective employment exchanges, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu said in a statement on Wednesday. Responding to a call for a fast on Thursday by the Unemployed Graduates Association, which has received support from the PMK, the CPI and the CPI(M), he said the DMK manifesto had only said that recruitment for primary teacher vacancies would be done on the basis of employment exchange seniority and not graduate teacher recruitments. However, the party was not, in principle, opposed to recruiting the latter too based on such seniority.
Chief Minister's advice
Responding to the demands by various sections that graduate teacher recruitments too be done on the basis of employment exchange seniority, he, along with the Minister for Higher Education and officials, held discussions with the Chief Minister, who advised that while status quo should be preserved with respect to the G.O, recruitments to 7,979 newly created graduate teacher vacancies could be done on the basis of employment exchange seniority. This was also announced in the State Assembly on August 4.
