THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Education M.A. Baby on Wednesday exhorted parents to allow children to choose a profession of their choice rather than force them to pursue a career which they detested. He was speaking after inaugurating the valedictory of a district-level youth convention, organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, here. "Today, the collective thinking of our society is to mould children into becoming an engineer, doctor or a collector. But how many of us have thought about the role played by teachers in our society?" the Minister asked. "The fundamental objective of education should be to learn as much as possible. But then there should also be a focus in our studies. You should not end up becoming a jack of all trades and master of none." A student must identify his area of interest and study the subject in depth, he said.
