Demolished

A private two-storeyed hotel building, constructed illegally on a 0.38 gunta plot of government land was demolished on Thursday near Hennur Bande in Bangalore North taluk by the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force. The land was worth about Rs. 6 crore, according to district officials. After the demolition, the property was taken into government's possession, according to the district Deputy Commissioner.

Association Day

Madras Sappers Officers' Association Day will be celebrated on September 30 to commemorate the raising of the elite Madras Sappers. The organisers have invited all retired and serving Madras Sapper Officers with their wives residing in Bangalore to a function at the Officers' Mess of the Madras Engineer Group and Centre, Bangalore, on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. For details, call 25006104.

Ban on sale of meat

The Karnataka Meet and Poultry Marketing Corporation Ltd., has banned animal slaughter and sale of meat on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Slaughter and sale have been allowed till 8 a.m. on October 1 and after 5 p.m. on October 3, an official release said.

Exhibition of SHGs

The Confederation of NGOs of Rural India (CNRI), New Delhi, is organising a two-week exhibition-cum-sale of products of women self-help groups (SHGs) and NGOs from October 2. Interested SHGs and NGOs may contact the CNRI Karnataka State Chapter Office, in front of The Forum, Hosur Road, Bangalore (ph: 25523041).

Kannada classes

The Kannada Prasara Parishat will start the next batch of Spoken and Script Learning Kannada classes from October 1 besides arranging separate classes for learning higher Kannada. Talent search

The Kannada and Culture Department, Bangalore Urban District, has organised "Kala Pratibhotsava" and in this connection, various competitions for children (aged between 8 and 13), teenagers (aged above 13 and below 18), youth (aged above 18 and below 30) and special Rangoli competition for women aged above 15 are organised on October 16 and 17 at the Kannada Bhavan.
