Public rally against LKB merger

KOCHI: The United Forum of Bank Unions will stage a public rally in protest against the merger of Lord Krishna Bank (LKB) with the Centurian Bank of Punjab here on Saturday. Rallies will be held in district centres on Friday. Protests will be held in front of Reserve Bank offices in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. - Staff Reporter

INBOC not for stir

Kochi: Indian National Bank Officers' Congress (INBOC) will not participate in the strike announced by bank employees on October 3, a press release issued by the State committee of the congress said on Thursday. - Staff Reporter

CAT registry to function

Kochi: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Ernakulam Bench, will observe Dussehra vacation on October 3 and 4. However, the Registry of the tribunal will function as usual from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., according to an official communication. - Staff Reporter

Appointed advisor

Kochi: Former Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyard Ltd and Transformers and Electricals (TELK) B.R. Menon has been appointed advisor to the Government for speedy implementation of inland waterways in the State. Mr. Menon is a consultant emeritus with Cochin University of Science and Technology. - Staff Reporter

Vaishya Samaj awards

Kochi: Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit K.S. Radhakrishnan on Thursday presented educational awards instituted by Vaishya Samaj to students who won laurels in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations. Mayor Mercy Williams inaugurated the meeting held on the occasion.

Chinmaya Fest begins

Kochi: Chinmaya Fest was inaugurated here on Thursday. Various cultural and literary competitions were held as part of the festival. The event will conclude on Saturday.

Hindi Fortnight ends

Kochi: Hindi Fortnight celebrations organised by Coconut Development Board concluded here on Thursday. Winners of various competitions held as part of the celebrations received prizes on the occasion. Employees of the board who did maximum work in Hindi also received awards.
