Letters to the Editor
During the 1960s, staunch movie buffs like me received wholesome and enchanting entertainment from Padmini starrers. It is very difficult to set apart her good movies because she churned out endless hits, especially with Sivaji Ganesan. Thillana Mohanambal and Vietnam Veedu ran to packed houses for more than a hundred days in one of the famous cinemas of Ooty, ATC. Padmini's other name was versatility. I had the opportunity to see Padmini shoot for Raj Kapoor's Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai. A scene was shot in the famous Lord Wenlock Downs. It may sound strange but move fanatics like me used to regard her on a par with legendary Hollywood artists such as Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Ava Gardner, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth and Ingrid Bergman.
