A memorable experience

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: These 24 boys pedalled their way back to the city on Thursday after spending a week cycling around the State.

They were cadets from the Military Schools of Bangalore, Belgaum, Ajmer, Dholpur and Chail. For these students of Class X and XI, it was an eye-opener. For some, it was also an exciting way of seeing the beauty of Karnataka for the first time.

The returning contingent was given a warm welcome by Lt. Col. Manohar, Principal of the Bangalore Military School.

The cycling expedition was part of the events organised by the military school here as part of its Diamond Jubilee to be celebrated in December.

The boys said they were greeted in every town they passed through or halted at. The local people and administrators provided them shelter, food and any other help they needed.

The cadets were touched by the hospitality of people in rural areas.

The cadets too benefited from the experience. They could interact with a variety of people and get acquainted with the cultural diversity of regions within the State, the different food habits and dress codes. The expedition was led by Maj. P.K. Tahakur, Administrative Officer of the school.
