MTV's Most Stylish Place award for Koshy's

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Now you have one more reason to head to Koshy's to enjoy your coffee, cutlet and chicken patties. The decades-old hangout has been awarded the Most Stylish Place in Bangalore by the youth-channel, MTV.

The award is part of the music channel's Lycra MTV Style awards. Now into its fourth year, this is the first time the awards have included a Stylish Place, and chill-outs in Bangalore and Kolkata were chosen to compete.

Koshy's, which has now stood for 66 years on St. Marks Road, was chosen because "it has withstood the test of time", according to Ashish Patil, Vice-President and General Manager, Creative and Content, MTV. "Style is way beyond fashion and glamour. Koshy's has a unique character and has bred its own stylish people. The guest book includes everyone from high commissioners to Usha Uthup. And it is not just about the décor and ambience, but also the staff," he said.

The award was presented to Prem Koshy in inimitable MTV style. VJ Cyrus Sahukar came dressed as Semi Girebaal, a parody of TV host Simi Garewal. And the trophy was a giant mock-up of a coal-fired iron box.

"Everyone who walks through the doors is an angel for us. Style for us is the people who make this endeavour click. The other day I saw four generations of our patrons on one table. It is the greatest return for us," said Mr. Koshy.

Regulars at the restaurant also got to dwell on a little bit of nostalgia. Darius Taraporewalla, veteran TV journalist said, "I have been coming here since 1969 and I have eaten about 22,500 chicken patties.

I just had a quadruple bypass surgery and am back here again, and have had two more patties."
