Meitei strikes five goals

    NEW DELHI: Randhan Meitei scored five goals while Lanin Angom and Manoj Tamang let in three each as Army Boys blanked Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's VM Public School, Baroda, Gujarat, 13-0 in the group III league match in the Subroto Cup sub-junior football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Thursday.

    Meitei scored in the 3rd, 17th, 41st, 44th and 58th minutes as Army Boys dominated the proceedings throughout the match. Susant Mallah and Joalson Mawrie were the other scorers for Army Boys.

    In a group II match, Government Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Nagaland, scored an identical 13-0 win against St. John Berchman's Middle School, Sarguja, Chhattisgarh.

    Kenein Guzu scored five goals including a hat-trick. His goals came in the 2nd, 22nd, 52nd, 55th and 60th minutes. Imikokba (26th, 29th, 30th and 42nd), Katovi (10th and 27th), and Lalpu Thomsong (16th and 25th) were the other scorers.

    In other action, Mizo Higher Secondary School, Aizwal, Mizoram, thrashed Burn Hall Higher Secondary School, Srinagar, 14-0.

    In the junior tournament, Government Boys Anand Higher Secondary School, Dhar, Madhya Pradesh defeated Malabar Christian College, Calicut, Kerala, by a solitary goal scored by Ankesh in the 11th minute.

    In other inconsequential league matches, Habibya School, Afghanistan, defeated Ukhrul Higher Secondary School, Manipur, 3-1 and Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, beat Zahira College, Colombo, Sri Lanka, 5-0.
