Talukdar qualifies for grand final

KOLKATA: It was a disappointing day for the Indians at the fourth Meteksan World Cup archery championship in Shanghai on Thursday. The only good news was National recurve champion Jayanta Talukdar's qualification for the grand final to be held in Merida (Mexico) on Oct. 22.

The team elimination round will be played on Friday where the Indian men's and women's recurve teams were ranked third and women's compound team was ranked fifth.Despite losing to current World Cup leader Ilario di Buo of Italy in the second round at 111-112, Talukdar was lucky to stay among the top four to make it to the grand final.

The results: Men: Recurve: Round two: Champia 109 lost to Piatek Piotr (Pol) 111; Rai 112 lost to Jang Yong Ho (Kor) 115; Talukdar 111 lost to Ilario di Buo (Ita) 112. Round one: Vishwash 106 lost to David Marin Coello (Mex) 108; Champia 112 bt Rahmat Sulistiawan (Ina) 102; Rai 111 bt Anton Prilepov (Bel) 109; Talukdar 113 bt Eduardo Magana (Mex) 105.

Women: Recurve: Quarterfinals: Lee Tuk Young (Kor) bt Punya Prabha (Ind) 109-102. Pre-quarterfinals: Punya bt Sayoko Kitabatake (Jpn) 103 (8) 103 (7). Second round: Derya Bard (Tur) bt Dola Banerjee 108-105; Mayumi Asano (Jpn) bt Reena Kumari 103-101; Sayoko Kitabatake bt Chekrovolu Swuro 109-105. First round: Dola bt Guo Dan (Chn) 107-103; Reena bt Novia Nuraini (Ina) 110-96; Punya bt Elin Kastrom (Swe) 105-100; Chekrovolu bt Jasmin Figuerao (Phi) 106-103.
