IN BAD SHAPE: A view of the Bandlamitta road in Ongole.
ONGOLE: Even pedestrians and cyclists find it difficult to use the road between Rangaraya tank and Bandlamitta centre here, thanks to the `neglect' of municipal officials in completing the pipeline work. As the arterial road is ridden with trenches, people going from the bus station to Bandlamitta have to move in a circuitous route. Local people have to tread on the road with all caution to reach their homes, particularly at night.
Cracks to pipeline
The Ongole municipality has planned to lay cement concrete pipes with higher diameter to meet growing needs of the thickly populated areas like Lawyerpet. As the pipeline passing from Rangaraya tank to Sai Baba temple often develop cracks leading to wastage of water on one hand and damage of the road on the other, municipal officials have planned to lay the bigger pipeline at a depth of six feet to save both the pipeline and the road and avoid complaints in future. They accordingly allotted the work to a contractor, who dug deep trenches and laid the pipeline. But he could not fix the pipes due to some technical problems. So the trenches could not be closed for laying of a road to restore traffic from Rangaraya tank to Bandlamitta or Sai Baba temple. Following an uproar, municipal officials restored the road from the tank to Meenakshi temple to ease traffic congestion and divert at least some vehicles towards court centre. But Bandlamitta road remained unattended causing traffic congestion and putting people to untold hardship.
