Meet on gastroenterology on Monday

KOLLAM: The mid-term conference of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (Kerala Chapter) will be held at Ezhukone, near here, on October 2. The event is being organised by the Department of Gastroenterology, the Shankar Institute of Medical Sciences.

At a press conference on Thursday, organising secretary Jayakumar B. Kannan said it was the first time that the meeting was being held in Kollam.

Dr. Jayakumar said the Director of Medical Education Meenu Hariharan would inaugurate the meet. V. Balakrishnan, gastroenterologist, and Dr. Meenu will be honoured for their contributions to the field. The conference will focus on herbal remedies in hepatitis, recent advances in endoscopy, pancreatic and liver surgeries, new treatments for hepatitis B, drug induced hepatitis and recent management in gastric malignancy. A competition will be held for the best research paper on the subject from Kerala.
