Rs. 29.23-cr. grant to boost water supply in Kadapa

Work to commence soon on augmenting drinking water supply


  • Rs. 10 crores allotted for drinking water supply
  • Rs. 33 crores for underground drainage system
  • Rs. 25 crores sanctioned for widening of roads
  • Works on underground drainage system and road-widening to be completed in two years

    KADAPA: Round-the-clock drinking water supply will become a reality in Kadapa Municipal Corporation with the sanctioning of Rs. 29.23 crores under the Centrally-sponsored Urban Infrastructure Development for Small and Medium Towns Scheme, according to Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy.

    Infrastructure would be developed to ensure drinking water supply in the town, he said at a press conference here on Thursday. The Mayor thanked Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for their initiative in granting funds to Kadapa.

    He said under the first phase, Rs. 10 crores had been allotted for drinking water supply and Rs. 33 crores for underground drainage system. Works would commence soon for augmenting drinking water supply keeping in view the needs of next four to five decades, Mr. Reddy said. In addition, Rs. 25 crores had been sanctioned for widening roads in the town.

    Irrigation projects

    Work on irrigation projects, beautification of Buggavanka stream course, Yogi Vemana University and regional sports school were progressing at a brisk pace, the Mayor asserted. Underground drainage system and road-widening would be completed in next two years. The town would be beautified and provided all basic amenities, he said.

    A large park would be developed on a 300-acre site in Bandikanuma, proposed to be developed into a tourist centre, Mr. Ravindranath Reddy said.

    New roads would be laid on completion of underground drainage system, he added.
