ANANTAPUR: The District and Sessions Court on Thursday adjourned the proceedings of preliminary hearing in the Paritala Ravindra murder case to October 12. Arguments on the petition filed by one of the accused expressing his willingness to turn an approver were also postponed. None of the 15 out of the 16 accused in the case were produced in the court due to Maoist bandh in the district and also lack of police escort, as a majority of police force of the district was sent to Kurnool and Kadapa districts for Sonia Gandhi's visit on Wednesday. While key accused Suri and two others are lodged in the district jail at Reddypalli near here and another 12 are lodged in Chanchalguda and Charlapalli prisons in Hyderabad. Those lodged in Hyderabad jails, including Moddu Sreenu, were produced before District and Sessions Judge K. Gaddenna through video linkage. The judge extended the remand of all the accused till October 12.
`CBI pressure'
Meanwhile, on the petition filed by A-9 in the case K. Rammohan Reddy seeking the court's permission for talking to CBI officials and expressing his willingness to turn an approver in the case, counsel for a few accused G. Krishnamurthy from Kadapa urged the court not to accept the plea of the accused. The counsel protested and alleged that the CBI had been pressuring the accused to turn an approver by inducing him with offers of a way out for him or threatening him. Otherwise, how could the accused come to know about the names of the CBI officers investigating and dealing with the case as mentioned in his petition, he sought to know. Appearing for CBI as special prosecutor, Senior Counsel Venkoba Rao from Kurnool argued in support of the petition filed by Rammohan Reddy.
