HYDERABAD: The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), Anakapalle, Cheepurpalli, Kuppam and Sircilla Rural Electric Cooperative Societies and the State Government have signed a tripartite agreement aimed at providing power connections to all villages in their jurisdiction. At a brief function here on Thursday, REC Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Lakhina signed the agreement with officials of the four societies and the Government providing for electrification under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameena Vidyuthikaran Yojana (RGGVY). These four societies will receive Rs. 23.15 crores for electrification of over 93,000 below poverty line households in 657 villages and over 1,300 non-electrified habitations in the rural areas.
Habitations
The REC sanctioned Rs. 648 crores for the State to take up the yojana. Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Lakhina said Rs. 16,000 crores was allocated to provide power to villages and habitations by 2009. "This will be scaled up to Rs. 20,000 crores to achieve the target," he said. Mr. Lakhina said the REC was awaiting the nod from the Centre to raise funds through public issue. "The Power Ministry is keen to raise funds to expand the activities", he said.
