Vodalarevu (East Godavari) : Dismissing all rumours about new wells and falling production in ONGC's KG Basin, new production of oil and gas has been started recently in one of its new projects-GS15 here . The offshore drilling station, about 8 kilometers from Vodalarevu of Konaseema in East Godavari district is producing 257 tonnes of oil and 85,000 cubic meters of gas per day. It is expected to generate Rs.500 crores of additional revenue to the ONGC per annum apart from the prestigious G-1 project, which was given to an Australian company. State-of-the-art technology, which is technicallycalled Intelligent Completion (IC) is going to be in process in the 12th well of GS15 and G-1 combined project before the end of next year.
Unique features
"This is going to be first of its kind in India and even Mumbai is not having this state-of-art technology," said A.A. Khan, Rajahmundry Asset manager. However, the G-1 project is going to be a unique project with distinguished features like sub-sea wells in Christmas Tree model, with capacity of 40 tonnes each. All the five wells will be built in the same model and the unmanned offshore system will be run with the help of computers and electronic devices. Out of 30 wells the ONGC drilled 15 and in 2006-07 they are going to drill another 10 to 15 wells to reach the target.
