CHENNAI: Big FM, the radio station promoted by Adlabs Films Limited, on Wednesday became the fourth private FM radio for Chennai. It started broadcast on 92.7 FM at 5.30 a.m. with the mellifluous voice of M.S. Subbulakshmi rendering the `Suprabatham'. At a press conference later in the day, the Chief Operating Officer, 31-year-old Tarun Katial, said the station would focus on local content, and hoped that it would become its USP. In addition to the regular dose of fun and music, the station promises to carry regular traffic updates, weather forecasts and other public utility messages. It launched a road safety awareness campaign on Wednesday, through which its radio jockeys interacted with the public on related issues. On the selection of songs too, Mr. Katial said the station would cater to individuals between 25 and 40 years. "You are not going to hear only the latest hits played on a loop over and over. We want to focus on songs that a generation has grown loving."
Asin roped in
Big FM has also signed Kollywood heartthrob Asin as its brand ambassador for Tamil Nadu. Though the chirpy actress was not there at the press conference, Mr. Katial promised that she would be there at their studios soon to interact with listeners. Among several other radio jockeys, Big FM is bringing on air popular television personalities Chetan and Uma Riyaz Khan for two separate programmes. Responding to a query on catering to the demand for Carnatic music, Lakshmi N. Sharath, Vice-President, South Operations, said the radio would be looking forward to the `Margazhi Music Festival' season. She added that their morning programme `Anuragam', broadcast between 5.30 a.m. and 7 a.m., will air a collection of devotional and Carnatic music every day.
