CHENNAI : Eighty cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from the State, who returned to the city on Thursday after attending a pre-Republic Day camp at Delhi, were honoured at the Madras Medical College here. Commodore U.N. Chitnavis, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andaman & Nicobar, congratulated the cadets, including school and college students, on their efforts and urged them to keep it up. The boys division with 40 cadets was placed third among the teams from 16 /directorates in the country that participated in the Tal Sainik camp held between September 15 and 26 at Delhi. The 40-strong girls' wing came fourth in the overall positions. P.K. Anand of Vivekananda College in the city won the gold medal for his individual performance in obstacle course. Nityalakshmi from Stella Maris College won a silver medal for shooting and P. Shalini from Vellalar College for Women, Coimbatore, for communication. The winners in all events also received monetary prizes from the Tamil Nadu Government. The girls won overall prizes in events including map reading, obstacle course, shooting, communication and map reading. The boys won prizes in events including poster painting, advanced shooting and point-to-point march.
