Jewels burgled

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM : Gold jewels weighing 25 sovereigns and Rs. 10,000 cash have been burgled from a Chennai Port Trust employee's home in Pallavaram. The burglary came to light on Wednesday morning when the occupants returned home after a visit to Velankanni.

X. Francis and his relatives saw the rear iron grille and the wooden door broken open and the house ransacked. The jewels and the cash were taken away from the almirah, along with a couple of ATM cards and a passport. The culprits also withdrew Rs. 20,000 using one of the ATMs, using the PIN number reportedly written down on the reverse of one of the ATM cards.
