Rebut Musharraf's claims on Kargil: BJP

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party here on Thursday demanded that the Government respond to and rebut the "blatant lies being perpetrated by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on the Kargil war."

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the fact was Kargil was a victory for India and India's soldiers had made supreme sacrifices to win the war. The Pakistan army had retreated leaving even their dead behind.

For years Pakistan had denied that its army was at all involved in the war and now General Musharraf has admitted in his book In the Line Of Fire that regular Pakistani troops had participated in Kargil battles.

Although former Chief of Army Staff, General V.P. Malik, has already dismissed the Musharraf account of Kargil as laughable, the BJP said that was not enough; the Government should respond to the Pakistan President and put the record straight.
