NEW DELHI: Aimed at promoting contemporary Indian art, a new art portal, www.artaction.in, has been launched by Talent Resurgence and Youth (TRYO), an organisation dedicated to the promotion of art, culture and sports. To give art lovers and investors an opportunity to buy online, the portal will showcase prominent and upcoming artists in the field of painting, cartoons and sculpture. One of the attractions on salewill be a painting titled "Falling Figures" by acclaimed artist Tyeb Mehta that will be put on sale online. The portal will offer a variety of art works ranging in price from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 3 crore. The portal, which will have profiles of the featured artists, their interviews and critical appreciation of their works, has taken off with the contents of the forthcoming art exhibition, "Celebrating India", at Travancore Art Gallery on Kasturba Gandhi Marg here. Scheduled to be held from October 3 to 9, the exhibition will commemorate 150 years of the country's first War of Independence. Featuring 125 artists from across the country, the exhibition will display works of prominent artists such as Akbar Padamsee, S.H.Raza, Ganesh Haloi and Bose Krishnamachari. An interesting feature of the show will be participation of jail inmates from Mumbai. A portion of the proceeds from the show will also go towards the welfare of war widows.
