Karwar: Inayatulla Shabandri, vice-president of Bhatkal municipality and president of the Bhatkal unit of the Janata Dal (Secular), surrendered before the police on Thursday in connection with theft and desecration of idols at the Naga Jataka Temple in Bhatkal on March 28. He has been remanded in judicial custody till October 9. The police had registered a case against him on a complaint lodged by president of the temple management committee Mahadev Moger. Though the police arrested other accused in the case, they were not able to arrest Shabandri. He surrendered after the High Court rejected his application for anticipatory bail twice.
