Kerala enters final of three events

KOZHIKODE: Karnataka knocked out holder and host Kerala 3-1 in the men's semifinals of the South Zone inter-State badminton championships at the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium here on Friday. In Saturday's final, Karnataka will take on Andhra, which made short work of Tamil Nadu 3-0, without dropping a single game.

Kerala, however, entered the finals in the other three events — women's, junior boys and junior girls. Its opponents in those finals are Karnataka (women's and junior girls) and Andhra.

The results: Men: Semifinals: Karnataka bt Kerala 3-1 (Ajit Wijetilak bt Alwin Francis 21-16, 21-16, Rohan Castelino bt Sanave Thomas 21-13, 14-21, 21-14; Guruprasad & Vineet Manuel lost to Sanave Thomas & George Thomas 21-14, 18-21, 15-21; Mohit Kamat bt Joy Antony 21-10, 21-15).

Andhra bt Tamil Nadu 3-0 (P. Kashyap bt Prakash 21-6, 21-7, C.M. Sasidhar bt Senthil Velan 21-8, 21-4; J.B.S. Vidyadhar & P. Kashyap bt E. Raghavan & Vijayanand 21-13, 21-15).

Quarterfinals: T.N. bt Pondicherry 3-2.

Junior boys: Semifinals: Kerala bt Karnataka 2-1 (Midhilesh Sundar lost to Adithya R. Prakash 14-21, 17-21; Shanker P. Gopan & Ram C. Vijay bt Shashank & Anup Kiran 19-21, 21-18, 21-16; Shanker P. Gopan bt B.S. Falgun 21-9, 21-9).
