BELGAUM: The Legislative Assembly on Thursday adopted two important Bills: the Karnataka Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill, 2006 and the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2006. The Prevention of Disqualification Bill, commonly known as the office of profit Bill, was passed by the two Houses of the legislature in the budget session and was sent to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi for his assent. The Governor returned the Bill and suggested some changes. The Bill was, however, was passed in the Assembly on Thursday. It was piloted by Minister for Home and Law M.P. Prakash, who defended the placing of the Bill for consideration without many changes. The Bill will enable the Government to go ahead with the appointment of chairpersons to government Boards and other undertakings. The Karnataka Land Revenue Amendment Bill was piloted by Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar. The Bill was passed after several members, including the former Minister and senior Congress member M. Mallikarjun Kharge, offered suggestions to ensure that the Bill served its intended purpose.
