Belgaum: The historic five-day special session of the legislature held for the first time outside the State capital, here, has laid the foundation for an annual session. Land is being identified, hopefully before November 1, to build a `Vikasa Soudha' for the sessions, according to Chief Minster H.D. Kumaraswamy. At a press conference soon after the session ended on Friday, he thanked all those who made the event possible at such short notice, particularly the KLE Society and its chairman, Prabhakar Kore, MLC, the district administration and the Principal Secretary, Department of Revenue. He also thanked the people of the district. Reacting to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi's remarks in his address to legislators here on Thursday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the observations were based on the law and order situation in Bangalore and other parts of the State. Yet, compared to the situation in other States, Karnataka was much better off, the Chief Minister said. On the role of Opposition in supporting the Government in holding the session, he said but for the dharna and protests, which were not abnormal, the support was constructive. Stating that he would not be satisfied by just holding legislature sessions in backward regions, his five-day stay in Belgaum and visits to some of the rural areas during the months preceding the session had helped him feel the pulse of the people.
