JAIPUR: The Rajasthan police have termed the death of Shyamul Biswas a case of suicide. Biswas, who had been in police remand in connection with a murder, which took place in April this year, was found dead on Wednesday evening. The police sources, quoting Dr. N.L.Disaniya, Dr. Rajendra and Dr. Udita, who carried out post-mortem on the body of Biswas, said the victim had died of suffocation after hanging. The authorities said Constable Harish Kumar, who saw Biswas in a hanging position around 9-15 p.m., had brought him down and taken to SMS Hospital where he was declared dead around 10-20 p.m. According to the police, the constable had kept quiet about the incident fearing official reprimand. The post-mortem findings, however, note that the victim's body had about 20 injuries, though not fatal. The swelling found in the genitalia of the victim was not due to torture but because of accumulation of water, they have opined. The authorities have suspended Harish Kumar while Duty Officer Sanwalram and Head Constable Lalchand have been sent to the Police Lines. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, R.C.Sharma, has been asked to enquire into the case.
