KOLLAM: The pro-CITU Kerala Cashew Workers Centre (KCWC) will launch an agitation against the commission processing system rampant in the cashew sector. CITU leaders J. Mercykutty, E. Kazim and K. Thulasidharan said here on Friday that the system denied the statutory rights and benefits to the cashew workers. The other demands included immediate implementation of the revised minimum wages for the cashew workers and action against those processors in the private sector who denied the statutory rights to the workers. Ms. Mercykutty said the KCWC was willing to cooperate with the like-minded trade unions on the issue. After the Left Democratic Front Government came to power many positive developments had taken place in the cashew sector. A special officer for cashew was appointed and posted at Kollam. However, she said, there was a bureaucratic lethargy which was delaying the implementation of the Government decisions. A convention as part of the agitation would be held here on October 15.
