Experiments at the National Physical Laboratory on utilisation of solar energy for domestic and industrial purposes have yielded significant results. Besides the solar cooker, the laboratory has evolved three devices - water heater, distiller and water pump - all to be operated by solar energy. A finished water heater is now being given tests under practical conditions. Estimated to cost about Rs.100, it would be put to commercial use after ascertaining the opinion of users. The heater can be fitted on house tops and will provide an uninterrupted hot water supply through taps almost round the year.
