NEW DELHI: Ushering in a major change in the power consumption pattern, the Delhi Government has made use of solar water heating systems, CFL lamps and electronic chokes mandatory in all government buildings, departments, hospitals and jails. To promote energy conservation and efficient use of energy in the Capital on priority for demand side management of power, the Delhi Government has through its designated nodal agency Delhi Transco sought to promote solar energy, CFL and energy-efficient lighting by making it mandatory in all government premises to begin with.
Directions issued
The directions to all the departments on implementing the orders and to undertake energy audit using the services of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency have been issued by Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta under Section 18 of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. The new notification will also be applicable to all Government-aided institutions, boards and corporations. Under the new terms, use of ISI-marked motor pump sets, power capacitors and reflex valves in agriculture has also been made mandatory.
