NEW DELHI: Power distribution company BSES has booked the organisers of over 160 Durga Pujas, Ramlilas and melas on the charge of stealing nearly 1,100 kW of electricity for their shows. Urging the organisers to take temporary connections for such events and avoid any embarrassment, BSES has stated that theft of power for illuminating venues and nearby areas will not be tolerated. It said the thefts were detected by enforcement teams that were on high alert ever since they were constituted to conduct random checks all over the licensed area under both BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna. In the past 72 hours these teams have booked 15 big Ramlilas and Navratra functions for stealing power. Some of them were allegedly stealing 50 kW to 160 kW of power in prime areas such as Dilshad Garden, Mayur Vihar II, Geeta Colony, Rani Bagh, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, Shastri Nagar and Welcome Colony. Stating that residents and organisers of such functions should avoid illegal power from overhead power lines as this directly affects the power supply in the area, the company said for such functions legal temporary connections can be taken.
