Builder held on cheating charges

NEW DELHI: A 58-year-old builder has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on charges of cheating several Delhi University lecturers by selling them flats at Burari in North Delhi without clearing dues of over Rs. 23 lakhs towards the Delhi Jal Board.

The accused is a former district commander of Delhi Home Guard.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Prabhakar, the EOW received complaints from Nisha Bala and 23 others who had bought flats from Pawan Gupta, managing director of Hoovers Builders, at Burari. In the brochures and other related documents, Gupta allegedly claimed that the flats were free from all dues.

When the buyers applied for a fresh water connection, the Delhi Jal Board informed them that dues amounting to over Rs. 23 lakhs were to be cleared on account of misuse and other charges.
