Governor greets people

APAT vacation

HYDERABAD: The Vacation Bench of Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal, during its Dasara vacation from October 3 to 6, will accept only applications of urgent nature on October 5.Original applications to be presented on the reopening day after the vacation will be accepted in the registry from October 6, according to a press release. — Special Correspondent

MBBS seats available

HYDERABAD: N.T.R. University of Health Sciences has notified five vacancies in the MBBS course under sports quota for the year 2006-07 following High Court orders. `Admission norms flouted'

HYDERABAD: The All-India Students Federation has asked the Government to "disaffiliate" Shadan and Deccan Medical Colleges for disregarding admission norms notified by conveners of various entrance exams. In a joint statement, they charged the college managements of not admitting students even after they were allotted seats during counselling, a press release said.— Staff Reporter

Pseudo naxalites held

KHAMMAM: The police arrested six pseudo naxalites in Yellandu town on Friday, including three LIC agents, a news contributor of a Telugu daily and an RMP doctor. The gang was involved in extraction of money from local businessmen by posing as members of the CPI-ML (Janashakti), said Yellandu DSP Veera Reddy and Sub-Inspector Naresh Reddy. — Staff Reporter

Two couriers arrested

KHAMMAM: The Yellandu police on Friday arrested two couriers of the CPI-ML (Praja Pratighatana) Chapala Rama Rao and Thati Babu. They also seized some ammunition from the duo. They were remanded to custody. — Staff Reporter

Two held, ganja seized

KADAPA: Police arrested two persons at Khanagudur in Duvvur mandal and seized 22 kg of ganja worth Rs. 50,000 from them on Friday. B. Nagaraju and K. Nagabhushanam were arrested with the contraband, Duvvur Sub-Inspector Srinivasa Reddy said. — Staff Reporter

Singur water release

HYDERABAD: With the Singur reservoir filled to the brim, the Irrigation authorities began releasing water downstream by opening one of the gates on Friday. Simultaneously, power generation was also being carried out. The inflows touched 29.50 tmc ft mark and more inflows were streaming in, water was let out. — Special Correspondent

One killed in clash

KURNOOL: One person was killed in a clash at Alamkonda in Krishnagiri mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday night. According to reports, it all started when a bullock-cart owner demanded compensation from a lorry driver who caused minor damage to the cart. G. Ramudu (50,) who was not connected with the incident, died when stones hit him in the chest.— Staff Reporter

Farmer ends life

KHAMMAM: A farmer committed suicide in Anantaram village of Aswaraopet mandal on Friday. According to reports, Ch. Veeraju, 40, allegedly consumed poison due to increasing debts. He migrated from Jangareddigudem in West Godavari to this area ten years ago. Staff Reporter

Panic over `landmines'

ANANTAPUR: An act apparently committed by some unknown persons created panic on Thursday as villagers of P. Yaleru in Atmakur mandal noticed a wire linked to two freshly dug pits, giving an impression that Maoists had planted landmines. However, the bomb disposal squad found only tiffin carriers filled with compost fertilizer. Following the confusion, traffic on the Anantapur-Tagarakunta road was hit for three hours. - Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: Eighteen students were recruited by Matrix Agri-sciences Private Ltd here on Thursday and Friday. The company conducted campus recruitment and screened 160 candidates at the Government Degree College here. Of the 18 selected, six were from Government Degree College. - Staff Reporter
