Court allows small shops in residential areas

  • Sealing to be carried out in a systemic manner
  • Roads, streets, pathways to be kept free for public use
  • Owners of small shops asked to register themselves

    NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday allowed 22 categories of small shops, measuring not more than 20 sqm, to function in residential areas of the Capital.The categories are: vegetables, fruits, flowers; bakery items, confectionary items; kirana, general stores; dairy products; stationery, books, gifts, book-binding; photostat/fax/STD/PCO; cyber cafe, phone booths; LPG booking offices, showrooms without LPG cylinders; atta chakki; meat, poultry, fish shops; paan shops; barber shops, hair-dressing saloons, beauty parlours; laundry, dry cleaning, ironing; sweets shops, tea stalls without sitting arrangements; chemist shops; opticians; tailoring shops; electrical, electronic repair shops and photo studios; cable TV/DTH operations; hosiery, readymade garments, cloth shops and ATMs.
