NEW DELHI: Reacting to the Supreme Court's directions issued on Friday about sealing of illegal commercial establishments in the Capital, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said the Congress had cheated the traders and residents as no relief had been provided to them. Accusing the Congress of "wrong and unclear" policies that led to the traders' woes, MCD Leader of Opposition Subhash Arya said there was still no clarity on the validity of notifications issued by the Centre. Immediate implementation of the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 was the only way out of the mess, he added. "Interestingly, as per the apex court's directions, lakhs of traders who were so far out of the legal process have come under its ambit as the apex court has imposed the condition of filing affidavit as well as certificate of registered architect for shopkeepers carrying on their trade at 2,183 roads notified by the Delhi Government," said Mr. Arya. Stating that the order have also put a big question mark on the future of more that 45,000 traders and shopkeepers who had earlier submitted their affidavits, senior BJP Councillor Vijender Gupta said the Court's directions had proved that the notification issued by the Delhi Government was not foolproof. "The traders will only get temporary relief. Moreover, they will now have to file affidavits and certificates from registered architects. Besides, their registration will also be done by the Monitoring Committee," he added.
