Three Killed in road accidents
Sonu, 25, was run over by a truck when he was repairing his auto-rickshaw at Okhla in South Delhi late on Thursday night. He and his wife were returning from Kalkaji temple when his auto-rickshaw broke down at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi. While Sonu was repairing the vehicle, a speeding truck hit him, killing him on the spot. In another incident around 9 a.m., 40-year-old Balram, a resident of Usmanpur, was killed and his wife Babli injured when a bus plying on route 721 hit them at Inderpuri. Babli has been admitted to RML Hospital. An unknown person was run over by a vehicle at Prahladpur roundabout at 2-45 p.m. Cases of causing death due to rash and negligent driving have been registered and a hunt launched for the erring drivers.
ITBP constable commits suicide
A resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, Sunil Kumar had joined ITBP in 1988. Police enquiries revealed that he had returned from a 15-day vacation only a couple of days ago. Inquest proceedings have been initiated.
MCD engineer held for graft
The Anti-Corruption Branch received a complaint from Lalit Sharma, a resident of Dilshad Garden, on Thursday that Junior Engineer V.S.Chauhan had demanded Rs.1 lakh from him to pass the bills for a cement concrete and drainage work at Geeta Colony. Acting on the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Branch laid a trap and allegedly caught the accused red-handed while he was receiving the first instalment of Rs.15,000 from the complainant.
Three arrested in fake B. Tech degree racket
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW) Prabhakar, the department had received a complaint from K. Debnath that Indian Institute of Aeronautics at West Punjabi Bagh had enrolled his daughter for the B. Tech. (Aeronautical Science) course without having any authorisation to issue B. Tech. degrees. Investigations revealed that institute president J.K.Sinha, joint director C.P.Singh and assistant director Subrato Bhattacharya conspired with some other persons to enrol students without authorisation. They allegedly collected over Rs.1.6 crores from the students in the past two years for the courses and also conducted examinations.
