BANGALORE: Two youths kidnapped an elderly woman in a car from Vijayanagar police station limits and robbed her of gold ornaments worth Rs. 80,000 on Thursday night. The police said that around 7.30 p.m. Gowramma (64), a resident of 10th Main, M.C. Layout, was walking towards a nearby temple when two men, who came in a car, introduced themselves as her son's friends. The man, who was driving the car, requested Gowramma to accompany him to the "Gruha Pravesha" of his new house and forced her to board the vehicle. The two took Gowramma to a secluded area on the Outer Ring Road, off Ambedkar Institute of Technology, in Jnana Bharati police station limits. They relieved her of a pair of gold bangles and a chain and sped away, the police said. On a complaint by Gowramma, the Vijayanagar police have registered a case.
Two commit suicide
A young man and a woman, suspected to be lovers, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Whitefield on Wednesday night. The incident came to light on Thursday. The police said the bodies were found on the tracks near Hoodi, between K.R. Puram and Whitefield railway stations. The dead have been identified as Sumitra (26) of BEML Nagar in KGF and Mahesh (25) of a village near Hoodi. The two were working in a garment factory here. The police suspect that Mahesh, a married man, and Sumitra, were in love. The Cantonment Railway police have registered a case.
Tusks seized
The Magadi Road police arrested two persons and seized from them two elephant tusks, together estimated at Rs. 5 lakh. The police gave the names of the arrested as Ramakrishna alias Munikrishna (28) of Dommasandra on Sarjapura Road and Venkatesh alias Venkataswamy (40) of Hosur in Tamil Nadu. The two were arrested while they were allegedly trying to sell the tusks weighing 10 kg near Dasashrama in Rajajinagar. The police said they were on the lookout for Mani alias Raja of Hosur, who is said to have supplied the tusks to the arrested.
Recovered
The City Market police arrested David (53) of Kalasipalya on charges of theft and recovered from him electronic goods and gold ornaments, together worth Rs. 50,000. The accused had burgled houses on the outskirts of the city in Varthur, Kadugodi and Whitefield police station limits, the police said.
Pedestrian killed
A pedestrian, an unidentified man aged around 35, was killed when he was hit by a motorcycle on Airport Road around 10 a.m. on Thursday. The police have kept the body at the Bowring Hospital mortuary. The Airport traffic police have registered a case.
Body found
The body of a woman, aged about 65 was found in a drain in Rajagopalnagar police station limits here on Thursday. The victim's identity could not be established. The police suspect that the woman might have died on Tuesday or Wednesday, as the body was in a decomposed state. The police registered a case of unnatural death.
